Argh! Just a couple of weeks to go before final submission. There have been setbacks along the way – it was a huge blow that Dr John Sutherland, the course co-ordinator and our lecturer suffered a stroke at the start of the year and is now hors de combat for the foreseeable future.
Then our lead programmer Sean took ill and was out of action for a couple of weeks! This was a serious setback and effectively left us at a standstill. Luckily he came back to us and has since been locked in a room, chained to his computer and not allowed to do anything else except code! We occasionally slide a pizza or a sandwich if for him under the door. This has worked as in short order we had a working game and were ready for the user evaluation.
By dint of threats, coercion and blackmail, we lined our users up and compelled them to play the game and fill in the questionnaire. The feedback was very useful, containing some excellent suggestions for improving the game (my favourite was “use Sean for the archer”). As I write, the improvements and tweaking to the game is under way and the second tranche of user testing is imminent. Our last blog will be next week, when <fingers crossed> all tweaking, testing and twiddling will be done and the only thing left to do is submit our work.
